During the storm, a building on the boardwalk caught fire. It spread rapidly because of the high winds, and ended up wiping out the entire building. This building was home to Mrs. Mitchell's (a popular and longstanding gift shop), the waterfront branch of Hearts and Crafts (its downtown Hampton store is still open)and a large candy store known for its huge bins of every kind of saltwater taffy imaginable. There was also a small cafe and several apartments on the upper levels. The building itself has been around since the 50s.

(adjacent building badly scarred by the heat)

(you can see my old apartment building behind it)
And for major mood whiplash, a colorful kite festival!
